Skillshare does not offer a true offline mode on PC. Its built-in downloads live in the mobile apps, so the website on a Windows or Mac computer needs a connection to stream. To watch on a PC with no internet, you save the lessons as video files while you are online and play them later in a local player such as VLC.
This guide covers what the official offline feature does and does not do on a computer, the workarounds people try, and the method that actually produces playable files on a PC.
What "offline mode" means on a PC
On a phone, offline mode is simple: you tap download in the Skillshare app and the lesson is stored for later. On a computer, there is no equivalent button in the browser player.
That leaves three realistic situations:
- You want to watch a class on a plane, train, or somewhere with no Wi-Fi.
- You want the lesson as a normal video file you can keep, back up, and play in any player.
- You want to rewatch the same lessons many times without streaming them again.
Only the second and third need files on disk. If you just want a bigger screen for a phone download, mirroring may be enough. If you want the video on the PC itself, you need to save it there.
Why the official offline feature stops at mobile
Skillshare's app downloads are designed to stay inside the app. In practice that means:
- The files are not exposed as standard video files you can browse in File Explorer or Finder.
- Access is tied to your account and membership, so it can stop working if your plan ends.
- There is no supported way to move an app download onto a laptop or desktop.
So if you search for a "Skillshare offline mode PC" setting, you will not find one. The feature exists, but not on the platform you are using.
Method 1: Mirror your phone to the PC
This is the closest thing to using the official feature on a computer.
- Install the Skillshare app on your phone or tablet and sign in.
- Download the class inside the app where the option is available.
- Connect the phone and the computer to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Use a casting or mirroring tool to send the phone screen to the PC.
- Play the downloaded lesson and watch it on the larger screen.
Where it fails
- Most mirroring tools need a network, so a full disconnect usually breaks the stream.
- Quality drops and playback can stutter on a busy network.
- Nothing is stored on the PC, so you cannot watch later without repeating the setup.
Mirroring is fine for a one-off bigger-screen session. It is not offline viewing on the PC.
Method 2: Save the lessons as files with Skillshare Downloader
Skillshare Downloader is a Chrome extension that downloads video files from Skillshare classes you can already access. The file lands in your normal Downloads folder, so it plays with no connection and no app.
At the time of writing, it uses credits:
- 15 free credits when you sign up with Google (about 3 new video downloads).
- 5 credits per new video download.
- Standard plan: $9.80/month for 100 credits (about 20 videos).
- Pro plan: $29.80/month for 750 credits (about 150 videos).
- Re-downloading the same video does not cost extra credits.
Steps
- Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store.
- Click the extension icon and sign in with Google to claim your 15 free credits.
- Open the Skillshare class page in Chrome and make sure you are signed in.
- Click the extension icon again and wait while it detects the lessons.
- Choose the lesson and the quality you want.
- Check the credit cost (5 credits per new video) and confirm.
- Wait for the file to finish saving to your Downloads folder.
- Turn off Wi-Fi and open the file in VLC or your default player to confirm it works.
Where it fails
- It only works in browsers that can install Chrome extensions.
- It only downloads classes your Skillshare account can currently access.
- You need credits for new downloads once the free 15 are gone.
- It depends on Skillshare's current player, so a major platform change can break support until the extension updates.
Method 3: Screen recording
Recording the screen captures whatever plays on your PC, including classes you cannot download any other way.
- Open the class and set the player to full screen.
- Start your recorder with system audio enabled.
- Play the lesson from start to finish without skipping.
- Stop the recording and trim the start and end.
Where it fails
- It runs in real time: a 40-minute lesson takes 40 minutes.
- Audio can drift or pick up notifications and background sound.
- Files are large, and recording a whole course is slow and messy.
It is a last resort for a single lesson, not a way to build an offline library.
Comparison: offline options on a PC
| Method | Works with no internet | File on your PC | Setup effort | Main limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skillshare mobile app downloads | Only on the phone | No | Low | Cannot move files to the PC |
| Mirroring phone to PC | Rarely | No | Medium | Needs a network to cast |
| Skillshare Downloader | Yes | Yes | Low | Credits per new video |
| Screen recording | Yes, after recording | Yes | Medium | Real-time, quality loss |
If the goal is a file on the computer that plays on a plane, only the last two rows deliver it, and the extension is the faster of the two.
Common problems and fixes
The extension does not see the class
- Confirm you are signed in to Skillshare in the same Chrome profile.
- Reload the class page, then reopen the extension panel.
- Check that the class actually plays in your region and membership.
The download stops partway
- Pause other large downloads or streams.
- Try a shorter lesson to see whether the problem is that one file.
- Check that you have free disk space.
The saved file will not play
- Try VLC, which handles most common codecs.
- Re-download the lesson; a partial file is the usual cause.
The phone download will not open on the PC
That is expected. App downloads are not standard video files, so there is nothing to copy. Use the extension on the PC instead.
Staying within the rules
Download only from classes you can legitimately access, keep the files for personal study, and do not upload or share them. Skillshare's terms and each teacher's copyright apply, and treating downloads as study material rather than something to redistribute keeps you on safer ground.
The short version
Skillshare has no offline mode on PC; its downloads are built for the mobile apps and cannot be moved to a computer. To watch on a laptop or desktop with no internet, save the lessons as files with Skillshare Downloader at 5 credits per new video, then play them locally in any video player.
