Skillshare Project Images Not Uploading: Size and Fixes

When a Skillshare class project image will not upload, first check the image's size and dimensions, then try the project editor in a web browser. Skillshare's current help specifies a maximum of 8 MB for cover and inline images, a suggested cover size of 690 × 388 pixels, and inline images of at least 300 × 200 pixels. Preserve your project text before changing files or retrying.

This guide is for students submitting work to a class project gallery, not teachers uploading lesson videos. Those use different tools and requirements. It covers image preparation, browser troubleshooting, privacy, and the difference between a saved draft and a published project.

Identify the image field that is failing

Open your class and choose Projects & Resources, then Submit Project. Skillshare's official project publishing guide distinguishes the optional cover image from images inserted into the project description. The cover is a thumbnail representing your work; inline images explain your process or show additional results.

If the cover uploads but a process photo does not, you may be using different files with different dimensions or sizes. Try a single image at a time so you can identify the failing item. If the entire editor is unavailable, check whether you are in the mobile app rather than the browser. Skillshare says projects can be posted through desktop or mobile web; app behavior may redirect you.

Image or content Official guidance Practical check
Project cover Ideal 690 × 388 pixels; maximum 8 MB Use a clear landscape crop
Inline project image At least 300 × 200 pixels; under 8 MB Export from the original, not a tiny preview
Video demonstration Include a supported video link in project text Verify sharing permissions and the link
Project description Explain the result and process Save a backup of your own text
Privacy selection Public or privately published Check the sharing option before Publish

A file's extension alone does not guarantee that a browser can display it. If you exported from a design app in a specialist format, create a standard web image copy for the project. Keep the layered source file on your own device so you can revise it later.

Prepare a smaller image without losing the important detail

Begin with the original image, not a screenshot of a compressed social media post. Crop out irrelevant background, then export at a size that preserves the detail your teacher needs to see. For an illustration project, you might keep the full composition as the cover and use one or two close-ups as inline images.

Check the file size in your operating system before uploading. If it exceeds 8 MB, use your image editor's export or compression control. You do not need to upload a massive camera original to demonstrate brushwork or a layout. Avoid aggressive compression that makes lettering, texture, or fine edges unreadable.

For a cover, consider whether the crop works at a small thumbnail size. A project about typography may need a larger central word; a landscape painting may need the horizon visible. For inline images, keep enough resolution for someone to inspect the technique, but do not include private client files or copyrighted reference material you are not allowed to publish.

If your class asks for downloadable design assets, that is separate from a gallery image. Our Skillshare class resources guide explains how to handle teacher-provided files without confusing them with your own submission.

Retry the upload methodically

  1. Open the class in a browser. Use the Projects & Resources section and confirm you are editing the intended class.
  2. Save your text first. Copy your own project description into a local note so an editor refresh does not cost you your work.
  3. Inspect the failing file. Check its size and dimensions, then export a web-friendly copy if necessary.
  4. Upload one image. Wait for the preview to finish before adding another image or changing tabs.
  5. Test a stable connection. If the upload stalls, try again after network conditions improve; avoid repeated rapid clicks.
  6. Preview and save deliberately. Confirm the correct image, title, and visibility, then Publish or Save Draft as intended.

If the problem persists, try a different supported desktop browser or a private window without unrelated extensions. A private window can also remove saved login state, so sign in normally and do not disable security features. Clearing cookies is a later step because it can sign you out and discard unsaved work. Record the exact error message and the image properties before contacting Skillshare support.

A project is not the same as a teacher's class video upload. Skillshare's teacher video upload troubleshooting covers video encoding and a different creator workflow. Its video limits should not be copied into a student's project image instructions.

Publish privately or keep a draft intentionally

Before you click Publish, decide whether you want the work in the public class gallery. Skillshare's project editor allows a private published project by unchecking the sharing option. That is useful when your work contains a personal learning exercise or a draft portfolio piece you do not want indexed publicly.

Private published and saved draft are not interchangeable. Skillshare's official help says a project saved only as a draft does not count toward a class certificate, whereas a published project can count whether public or private. Confirm the final status from your project page. Our private project submission guide walks through the visibility choice in more detail.

A published project can be edited later. Skillshare also explains that you generally submit one project per class and revise it rather than creating a new submission for every experiment. This makes it sensible to publish a clear first version, then update the images as your work improves.

Diagnose blurry images, missing previews, and stalled saves

A blurry thumbnail may be a crop or resolution issue rather than a failed upload. Compare the original and the displayed project. If the original is sharp but the cover looks soft, check whether you exported a low-resolution preview or stretched a small image. Re-export and inspect the preview before saving.

If the image disappears after you navigate away, confirm that you actually saved or published the project. Do not rely only on a temporary upload preview. Open the project from your profile and check the current version. If a browser error interrupted the save, recover your backed-up text and upload only the missing assets.

When the editor shows an error, collect the class URL, browser version, approximate time, file size, and a screenshot that does not reveal private account details. Ask Skillshare support about the project editor, not the downloader extension. For questions about how to improve the artwork itself, our Skillshare discussions and feedback guide covers constructive community questions.

Your project should contain work you created or have permission to share. A teacher's demonstration video is not automatically yours to republish, even if you can watch it. Link to the class when attribution is appropriate and keep copyrighted source material out of public galleries unless the license permits it.

Skillshare Downloader is a Chrome extension for supported lesson videos you are already authorized to access and save. It does not upload project images, fix gallery permissions, or submit class assignments. If you need a permitted personal lesson reference, install Skillshare Downloader from its official Chrome Web Store listing and test the specific accessible video. The demo is optional; not every player or protected stream is supported. Respect the teacher's rights and Skillshare's terms.

The short version

Check the 8 MB image limit, use suitable dimensions, preserve your description, and retry one image in a browser. Verify whether the project was actually published, and choose private publishing rather than a draft when that fits your goal. A lesson downloader cannot repair project uploads or replace official support.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum Skillshare project image size?

Skillshare's current project help specifies an 8 MB maximum for cover and inline images. It also recommends a 690 by 388 pixel cover and at least 300 by 200 pixels for inline images.

Can I submit a Skillshare project from the mobile app?

Skillshare says project publishing is handled through the website. On iOS the app may direct you to mobile web; use a browser if the app lacks the upload controls.

Why does my project image look blurry?

An image smaller than the recommended dimensions may be enlarged. Export a clearer original at suitable dimensions and preview it before publishing.

Can I publish a project without making it public?

Yes. Uncheck the sharing option before publishing. A saved draft is different from a privately published project and may not satisfy certificate requirements.
